Alfa Romeo has revealed its new Alfa 156 with a new 2.0-litre direct injection petrol engine known as the JTS (Jet Thrust Stoichiometric).
Adding the direct ignition system to the cylinder head, has involved removing of one spark plugs, meaning the JTS engine is not available in classic 'TwinSpark' mode.


The JTS engine is a gasoline direct injection engine produced by Alfa Romeo. It exists in two forms, straight-4 and V6, and was introduced into the Alfa lineup in 2002.
The JTS engine debuted in 2002 in the Alfa Romeo 156. The engine replaced the 2.0 Twin Spark, by replacing this system with direct injection, dubbed .Jet Thrust Stoichometric.. This improved power from 114 kW (155 PS) to 121 kW (165 PS), but more importantly, torque climbed from 187 Nm (137 ft.lbf) to 206 Nm (151 ft.lbf). In 2003, this engine was introduced to the GTV/Spider coupé and roadster.
In spite of its benefits to power, torque and economy, the JTS was not used in the smaller 147 or the larger 166, and much less in other models from the Fiat Group. It was only in 2005, with the arrival of the 159, that more variants of the JTS were produced. The 2.0 JTS gave way to a 1.9 L variant with 118 kW (160 PS) and a 2.2 L version with 136 kW (185 PS). The Brera also benefits from this engine, and it will be used in future Alfa Romeo models.
The JTS direct injection system was first used in a V6 engine in 2005 with the introduction of the Alfa 159 and Brera. This is not related to the Alfa Romeo V6 engine, but is instead a derivation of the GM High Feature engine, modified by Alfa and capable of generation 191 kW (260 PS), a number GM can only reach with the larger 3.6 L variant.



In the dawn of time, 1994 to be exact, Alfa launched their 2.0-litre twin spark engine. Here was a powerplant that did exactly what it said on the cam cover, boasting two spark plugs per cylinder to give a cleaner, more efficient and, as its an Alfa, a more powerful combustion process. We loved the Twin Spark engine but progress being what it is, this technology was considered cappello vecchio by Alfas product planners, hence the JTS powerplant.
This utilises the principle of direct gasoline injection as used by Mitsubishi with their GDI engines and Renault with their HPI range of power units. These fire fuel into the cylinder on the inlet stroke and meter their petrol ration minutely for optimum swirl, burn and happy customer. This lean running results in superb economy, but these engines have traditionally had an Achilles heel. The pistons and inlet ports are designed for low-down economy, and the engine reverts to a normal or stoichiometric mix of air and fuel when you plant the loud pedal.
Research has shown that Alfa owners enjoy doing this. A lot.

Therefore, the normal gasoline direct engine just wouldnt wash. The JTS engine, on the other hand, uses relatively normal shaped pistons and inlet ports and relies on the actual fuel jet and a sky-high compression rate to do the job instead. Therefore, the JTS engine runs super-lean only up to around 1,500rpm, and normally thereafter. To the untrained eye, this would suggest that the Alfa 156 is the perfect sporting car for those who spend most of their time stuck in nose to tail traffic but theres more to it than that.
10% more power is always welcome, as is 14% more torque than the Twin Spark unit it replaces. When you factor in superior fuel economy and better emissions, it seems the Alfa 156 JTS is proof positive of Darwins Theory of Evolution. Enthusiasts may miss the old cars metallic zing at high revs, the JTS unit being a little more softly spoken, but otherwise the news from Milan is all good.

Pa onda je ovo ustvari JTS Twin Spark samo sto je izbacen naziv T.Spark koliko sam ja svatio, i to je nadgradjen i unapredjen T.Spark motor.

TS=Twin Spark - Oznaka za motore Alfa Romea koji imaju 2 svećice po cilindru. Twin Spark u prevodu znači dvostruka varnica. JTS ima potpuno drugačiji (kompleksniji i moderniji) način ubrizgavanja benzina i nema potrebu za 2 svećice po cilindru. Koliko ja shvatam TS i JTS nemaju baš mnogo veze jedan sa drugim :scratch:
Inače negde sam čitao da je i Porsche ranije koristio konfiguraciju sa 2 svećice u svojim motorima :grin:

Koliko ja ovde vidim ne pise dal izbacili ovde ovu drugu svecicu ili nisu pise evolucija TS u JTS ja to shvatam da je u osnovi ovo jos uvek TS sa poboljsanim ubrizgavanjem da jos vise i bolje sagori benzin pri gradskoj voznji i do 1500 obrtaja a sta posle dal ako mu je ostala ova druga svecica dal i nju pali da bi na otvorenom i pri visim obrtajima imao vise snage malo su nejasnoce i oni ostavili da se mi ovde budemo u nedoumici jer nigde ustvari nije napisano dal je izbacena druga svecica

Definitivno jesu izbacili drugu svećicu.

Definitivno jesu izbacili drugu svećicu.
Ma mene ova zadnja recenica i dovela u zabludu. Hvala na pojasnjenju znaci definitivno sad imaju samo 4 a ne 8 kao do sad.

Nego, ajd' sad kad smo se opet toga dotakli... JTS I TS nemaju apsolutno nikakve dodirne tachke, ni u kom pogledu... Osim kubikaze... Naravno, JTS ima jednu svecicu po cilindru...
